Finals:  April 19, 2014, 7:30 p.m.

This may be a bit late to get yourself a horse and practice up for the 2014 events.  But ask us about Denver horse properties, ranches and farms from Weld County to Jefferson County and Douglas County and will show you some gems.  Cowboys and cowgirls in the Denver area could show you the ropes before next year’s Rodeo All-Star events get started.

Let’s say you want to enter the Bareback Riding event.  Mostly theatrical, those bareback riders need to look like it’s all very easy to stay on their horses, while they use only one hand to keep from being thrown off.  The fast-paced Barrel Racing challenges horsemanship to the point that it has become a big-money professional sport.  Bull Riding is an extreme sport and enjoys status as the most popular event in any rodeo.  Thrill-seekers screech as fearless riders strive to manage the one-ton horned creatures under boot.

Tie-Down Roping involves speed and accuracy, skills developed on the ranches in the Old West.  Ranch hands actually started the idea of rodeo when cowboys got together around the campfire during free time at the end of a long week and to challenge each other’s skills.

This is the second year for the Rodeo All-Star in Denver.  It is held at the National Western Complex, 4655 Humboldt St., Denver CO 80216.  Event sponsors include Dodge RAM, 92.5 WOLF, Coors, Murdoch’s, Mountain Dew, 9 News, and CINCH Jeans and Shirts.
