Strasburg
Escape to Heart of Strasburg Horse Country
By Coloradohorseproperty.com

On I-70, between the roar of the big city of Denver and the quietude of the high plain, are the fresh, loping hills of Strasburg, Colorado real estate in Adams County.  This agricultural community is rightfully cherished.  Its 1400 townspeople appreciate open fields, a simpler lifestyle, good schools and caring neighbors—qualities that make Strasburg immeasurably more golden than its famous gold rail spike.

Real estate in Strasburg—just east of Denver real estate for sale in Adams County—is definitely evaluating as more people are lured to horse property in Strasburg, ranch homes for sale in Strasburg, homes for sale in the newer Wolf Creek Farms and Coyote Ridge, and houses for sale in areas such as Strasburg East, Autumn Ridge, TC Estates, Comanche Crossing, Hutton Estate and Headlight Mile Road Estates—all close to a few choice acres for your little Shetland brood mare or gorgeous Arabian bay yearling stallion.  As this spot catches the eye of people yearning for respite from the fuss of the city, you can live here or buy and hold and reap the rewards later.

Called Comanche Crossing until 1875, the town was renamed in honor of John Strasburg, a foreman for the Kansas Pacific Railway.  Displayed in the train depot (in the Comanche Crossing Museum) is the story of the joining of the eastern and western sections of the Transcontinental Railway.  Apparently, a grand ceremony was planned to drive in the last spike.  To make it even more special, a gold spike was ordered.  But the messengers delivering the golden spike missed their stage and a plain old spike (covered in tinsel!) was used instead.  Symbolic, maybe, of the down-to-earth quality of the folks that would settle this area!

In addition to the museum, downtown features a few shops, casual restaurants and lodging facilities including the 1915 Strasburg Inn.  Some of the neighborhoods have soccer fields, baseball diamonds, and community swimming pools.  Local activities like the Outlaw Classic Wrestling Tournament, golf tournaments, basketball summer camps, vacation Bible schools, a fishing fest and aerobic classes all add to the hometown spirit.

And area development is planned with children in mind.  A new elementary school will complement the existing Strasburg High School in the near future.  And there’s the Prairie Creek Charter School, too.

Several recreational facilities ideal for camping, boating, fishing and bird watching are a short drive away—like Barr Lake State Park and Aurora Reservoir with its scuba-diving adventure.  And, do watch out for wildlife!  If you travel towards the Denver International Airport (only 30 minutes west), be sure to notice the beautiful Rocky Mountains as they rise majestically up out of the plains.

If you are new to the land, this town will teach you how to become a rancher or a farmer.  There are meetings, classes and reminders to help you with the conservation Reserve Program, the Colorado Farm Bureau, the Colorado GLCI Committee, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, horse boarding, riding lessons, horsemanship, etcetera.

Yes, the heart of Strasburg beats quiet and strong.  Bring your family and your horses out here where it’s plenty rewarding to watch the sunsets and the stars.
