Children of all ages love pony birthday parties at both pony and miniature horse ranches located north in Fort Collins, in the Denver area, in Black Forest, and in Colorado Springs.  Pony parties embellished with fairies, cowboys, and other themes bring children's fantasies to life. Some of the ranches will bring ponies, miniature horses, and petting zoos to your home instead.

Think about retiring to a spacious Central Colorado horse property along the Front Range, a move that will endear the grandchildren and perhaps add breeding income. Whether you are visiting or relocating to Jefferson, Douglas, Elbert, or El Paso counties, plan to visit one of these interesting pony or miniature horse ranches.

Differences between Ponies and Miniature Horses

Ponies and miniature horses are different types of equine.  In fact, the definitions vary. Miniature horses are a distinct read developed in Europe in the 1600s. Ponies include many different breeds of small horses. Ponies are small horses with heavy bones giving them thicker, broader bodies, heads, foreheads, and necks, and they have shorter legs and larger hooves than miniature horses. In addition, they are taller and can be measured up to 58 inches. There are some very strong breeds such as the Shetland pony.

Miniature horses are small and incomplete proportion, like a scaled-down horse. Registered miniature horses maxed out at 34 inches tall but the breed can get to 38 inches tall. They are smaller and slimmer than ponies, making them more refined. They have a long life span of 25-35 years. Miniature horses can be ridden and pull carts, and they act as pets, companions, and service animals.
