Boulder: Beautiful and Alive

Thirty-five miles northwest of Denver in the quiet foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Boulder dynamically displays her sophistication and warmth, her pride, curiosity and gratitude.

At 5,430 feet, real estate in Boulder is lush and inviting.  Horse properties for sale around Boulder greet citizens coming and going to the mountains and to the Mile-High City of Denver, Colorado.  Horse properties in Boulder may be swank and gorgeous or charming woodsy retreats or farmhouses with barns or smaller ranch houses or ranchettes in Boulder for horses.  Horse lovers are everywhere, even hiding amongst over 40 well-maintained neighborhoods.  Boulder homes for sale will accommodate horses or you can board them locally.

Boulderites are green.  Not with envy.  They already have it all!  Call it a balance or maybe diversification or whatever you'd like.  But this model city has been awarded best overall city; best for visitors, singles, and families; healthiest, thinnest, fittest; most independent; best for high tech, for business; best transportation; best for college sports, biking, running, fishing; best for the arts; of course, greenest...and the list goes on.

What it says is that the people of Boulder County are adaptable.  From being home to the Southern Arapaho tribe and the visiting Utes, Cheyennes, Comanches and Sioux, to becoming home to European gold seekers during the rush, the county has adapted.  When gold couldn't support the numbers of people, Boulder became a mining supply town.  Desiring more stability than the mining settlements, residents encouraged the establishment of railroad service, hospital and school buildings and a town government.  They lobbied for the University of Colorado and won the designation by donating land and raising money to match a grant.

They turned to tourism when other industries slowed down.  And they went after the awarding of a Chautauqua to showcase the arts and bring more revenue and culture.  But the real advertisement for the area came during the Second World War when troops came here to learn Japanese and returned later on the GI bill or to live in the town they had come to adore.

Fast-forward to today and notice that the 100,000 residents still want the best and are willing to work for it.  They work hard and play hard.  People are involved, many as volunteers.  And there is kind of a blur between work and play where passion for life itself is self-replenishing.

They've developed comprehensive educational opportunities with the Boulder Valley district schools, community colleges and the university.   The thriving business sector includes small, entrepreneurial businesses, major employers and federal research laboratories like IBM, Ball Aerospace, the National Institute for Standards and Technology, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.  The progressive spirit of the University of Colorado is the academic and cultural centerpiece of the community.

But play they do and you can, too!  Take in some sun on a jog or hike, a climb or a ski lift or perhaps a golf course.  Or, pop the little one into a stroller or jump onto a bike and enjoy the city's unique greenbelt system.  Or traverse the meadows and breathe in the panoramic views from atop a borrowed packhorse or even your own Black Beauty.  Options abound!
