Hold Yer Horsies in Berthoud Colorado

Berthoud, the Garden Spot of Colorado, is easily accessible to employment centers all the way along the Front Range to Denver's real estate.  Yet rural Berthoud offers your family a small-town quality of life—with cottonwood-shaded parks, quiet streets and century-old homes—a sort of Norman Rockwell place.

Horse real estate here in Larimer County may include breeding barns or maybe you'll build your own.  There may even be a friendly neighbor to help you nurture your horse right from birth.

Homes for sale in Berthoud with horse acreage are the crowning glory of the area’s abundant space and rolling grasslands.  In a town of 5055, equestrian facilities are convenient in town or further away on horse real estate in the Berthoud foothills.  You may find the perfect house for sale in Berthoud around Roberts Lake, Railroad Park or the Berthoud Skate Park.  If you have a youngster destined for 4-H activities, ask about Berthoud ranch homes for sale and working-ranches just down the road towards Loveland horse real estate.

The town was previously called Little Thompson, and was renamed in honor of civil engineer E.L. Berthoud who surveyed for the rail route through the valley.  Railroads eventually brought commerce and traveling salesmen showing off their goods.  Add agriculture—that has flourished since farmers figured out how to irrigate with water diverted from the Little and Big Thompson Rivers—and you have the peaceful scenery for a pleasant afternoon on horseback.  The area’s good farming genes may be the reason for the restaurants that still serve excellent traditional and exotic fare!

But you can just as soon stop for a picnic at Fickel Park—and add a game of H-O-R-S-E.  Or head west for rock climbing, fishing, boating, hiking and camping near Carter Lake, Pinewood and Flatiron Reservoirs.  And the next time around you can head north to Horsetooth Reservoir and Boyd Lake State Park.  Some really enjoy the archery range at the Lon Hagler recreation area or a ski resort in the Rocky Mountain National Park.

The town proactively plans for growth but strives to preserve the rural character.  So they do up Berthoud Day every year in June with a parade and festivities, great entertainment, lots of contests, games for children and lots of food.  How about headin' over to Flapjack Days, a 5K Run for Habitat, or the Old Time Vintage Baseball games?  And, the Annual Holiday Celebration is full of family events like the Parade of Lights, Breakfast with Santa and Horseback Carolers.

Most area students attend one of four public schools which are part of the larger Thompson School District.  With a commitment to providing the best education to all students, there are accountability committees at each school and parents are very involved.  And the Front Range Community College offers convenient courses for residents.

Now, ‘bout yer horsies.  Just love ‘em and teach 'em to load and lead, bathe and clip, stand and show, and ride them thar trails.  And, be sure to let them play.  For these majestic creatures will turn around to serve you for life.
